Make Way for Spring
February 2 is a traditional celebration of the midpoint between Winter and Spring. It’s time to turn the Wheel of the Year again and light the candles to make way for Spring. Depending on your viewpoint we are either in the depths of winter or right on the edge of welcoming spring. Here in the US the tradition is commemorated with Groundhog’s Day. Pagans celebrate this event as Brigid’s Day or Imbolc (pronounced EE-molc) and just like a solstice or equinox, there is a precise astrological date that corresponds to the event. It is the festival of light and fertility that honors the Goddess/Saint Brigid. Christians celebrate Candlemas, which is a Holy Day commemorating the presentation of Jesus at the Temple. Others simply enjoy the tradition of Groundhog Day and wait for Puxsatawny Phil to predict the arrival of spring.Light the Fire
Personally, I celebrate Imbolc in February. On the Wheel of the Year, this is a cross-quarter or fire festival that marks a midway point between equinoxes. The exact date varies each year for it occurs when the Sun reaches 15º of Aquarius. For me, it is a time to symbolically light the fire under my ass that moves me forward into action. This is a time of rejuvenation as we shake off the darkness and deep rest of winter. I don’t know about you, but I always find myself more inspired to action as the days grow longer and the Sun gets warmer.
Take stock of where you are in your journey right now. Do you have clarity on the goals you want to achieve? Is there a plan of action in place to help move you forward? What can you do to light the fire inside and continue to shine this year? Let us know in the comments below!
